Happy Travelers from New Zealand and Bao Loc – Private Vietnam Tour Guide
More Vietnam travelers tell about their experiences in Vietnam and their experiences with Bao Loc.
We just returned from Vietnam and found Loc by reading some of the reviews on here, Loc was the highlight of our holiday, what a lovely genuine person, we spent 3 days in Saigon with him and we were very sad to say good bye, he is so proud of his country and wants you to see it at its best, we went to some amazing places we would never have seen without Loc. The crazy motorbike tour was fab beyond words, even tough I was more than a little nervous at first, Loc made me relax and enjoy it. We were taken to the best food places for real local food – crispy pork to die for. Loc listens to what you want to get out of your stay and delivers 100%. Wish we had arranged for him the whole of our trip, we will definately be back to see even more of Vietnam with Loc.
And for all the skeptics out there, yes this is my first post on Tripadvisor but I have never had a reason good enough to post before and I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
Loc, if you see this you are a treasure of Vietnam and we will keep in contact for a long time.

Re: Best Private tour guide in Vietnam…. Bao Loc!!!
My husband and I just returned from an amazing trip consisting of a 14 day cruise in Southeast Asia and land travel in China. One of our cruise ports was 2 day stop in Ho Chi Minh City. After scouring the internet for legitimate private tour guides we contacted Bao Loc to arrange a private 2 day tour. We had read some of the Trip Advisor forum posts, most of them very favorable, and took a leap of faith and arranged a tour with him.
We asked Loc to arrange a day visiting Ho Chi Minh City and a day on the Mekong Delta that would take us away from the crowded touristy area. There were 7 of us in our group from the ship. Loc and his driver would pick us up at the port, drive us to the Mekong Delta for a day tour there, then drive us to HCMC to our hotel for the evening, pick us up the following morning for a city tour, and bring us back to the port prior to the ship’s departure that evening. The cost for this was a real bargain compared to the ship excursions.
When our ship arrived at the port we learned that they did not dock at Phu My, where we were originally scheduled to dock, but at another port 20 minutes away. No worries, Loc had already determined, prior to our arrival, which port our ship would be at. He was there waiting for us. What a relief! Off we went in a very comfortable van to visit Mekong. It was a long ride but we saw how the Vietnamese live outside the big city. It was very interesting. Loc gave us so much information about their history, current situation and what the future holds for South Vietnam. We arrived a Cai Be in the Mekong Delta and boarded a river boat that was small enough to explore the secluded canals and big enough to hold us all comfortably. Loc knows the area very well as his grandparents lived here and he spent his summers here as a small boy. This was an amazing day full of special stops and a wonderful lunch at a small outdoor café where we rolled our own spring rolls from vegetables and seafood from the Delta.
The tour of HCMC the next day was packed with so many stops. He wanted us to see the old and new city so we could appreciate the heritage as well as the hope for the future. He definitely succeeded in showing and teaching about his city. He introduced us to Vietnamese style coffee and took us to the best Pho place in HCMC. Another plus about this tour is there were no stops at artisan shops with high pressure sales.
Loc has such a warm friendly personality that it was so easy to be with him. He is so eager to improve on his English, which was pretty good. It was hard to say good bye to him when he brought us back to our ship. Loc is very proud of the city and country he lives in and wants to show visitors everything good about it. I highly recommend him and would use him again if I find myself going to Ho Chi Minh City again. source

Re: Bao Loc – Tour Guide
19 January 2013,
My Wife and I have just arrived home from Vietnam. It was our first visit to Ho Chi Minh City.
There are People wanting to visit Vietnam but are hesitant due to the Language Barrier.
We were excited because of a Private Tour Guide Called Bao Loc.
We asked Loc to set up our itinerary for our 5 Day Tour with Two Home stays One of them with a Family on the Mekong River. This was our Itinerary:
10 Jan: I will pick you up at your hotel at 9am and we will do city tour in the morning and Cu Chi in the afternoon.
11 Jan: we leave Saigon at 8am for Chau Doc, on the way we will stop by rice paddy fields and rest stop. Arriving in Chau Doc around 3pm, we will check in to the homestay on the craft, is it ok for you? We will go to visit Ba Chua Xu pagoda and the local market.
12 Jan: in the morning we will have a boat to take us to fishing farm and Cham minority village. After visiting village we will go back to the craft to get ready for driving to Can Tho. As soon as arriving in Can Tho, we will visit the ancient house before going to the homestay on an island.
13 Jan: we need to get up around 5:30am to go to visit the biggest floating market Cai Rang and floating on Phu Sa channel to see Can Tho bridge. Going back to homestay for breakfast before going to Cai Be. At Ca Be we will have a boat to take us to a small floating market, learning local people making rice paper and coconut candy, walking on fruit orchard island. We will get back to Saigon around 5-6pm.
14 Jan: we leave Saigon around 8am to see the beach city. On the way we will stop by the biggest pagoda and oyster farm. In Vung Tau we will go to visit the White palace, having coffee on the beach. On the way back to Saigon we can take a speed boat to get back to city faster (only 1hr 20mins) and the ticket is 10usd/person.
Please let me know your thoughts. As a private guide, I would like to do whatever you like to do and see. We do not have any fixed itinerary, all can be changed and based on your interests.
I could not imagine trying to do what we did without a Personel Guide.
This was an absolute hassle free trip Thanks to Bao Loc he arranged everything.
Now we have tlcked the Box. Now the dicision is yours.
Thank You Bao Loc for allowing My Wife and I to get it Done Right.

We spent a week in late August 2012 in Ho Chi Minh City, aka Saigon (the locals still like to call it that). Prior to our departure we had arranged for Bao Loc to be our guide for 4 days out of the week. We had researched the topic of guides and he came highly recommended. We spent the first day looking around on our own and were picked up by him the next morning. We had more or less arranged in advance what we wanted to do, but he made it clear that a change of plan, even at the last minute, would not be an issue at all.
Right from the start we felt extremely comfortable with him, his English is excellent and his knowledge of Saigon and surrounding areas obviously extensive. He picked us up in a clean, well maintained and fully AC’d Toyota Innova. We started with a city tour followed by Cu Chi Tunnels, the Mekong Delta, to the coast, Vung Tau, and ended the 4 days with a trip to the Tri An Falls and reservoir. During all our travels he expanded on the history of the area. His knowledge of Vietnam is extensive and he is obviously very proud of his country. He took us to ‘local’ places for coffee and lunches and every choice of his could not have been better. He also recommended places for us to go for dinner and all his recommendations were excellent.
If we return to Vietnam, we will make sure to employ him as a guide again. He made a great experience even better.

“ Suggested Private Tour Guide based in HCMC ”
My wife and I followed a few other suggestions on the internet recommending private tours based in Ho Chi Minh City. We were very, very fortunate to have put our trust in Bao Loc as our private guide. Bao Loc is an exceptional individual. He is extremely knowledgeable, courteous, safe, and prompt. Loc will tailor any day or group of days into a custom tour that suits you. Over three days we visited the tunnels at Cu Chi, the Mekong Delta, and a city tour of HCMC. He makes excellent suggestions about places to visit, and I guarantee will fulfill the needs of even the most demanding tourist. We have had private tours in Europe, Africa, and the United States, and Bao Loc is as professional as anyone we have met, and fulfilled our desires and exceeded our expectations.
Bao Loc is a very pleasant, courteous gentleman and is really a quality guy. We recommend him highly. He will not not disappoint you in any way.

I just completed my first trip to Vietnam. I did a lot of research on the Internet to try to maximize my positive experiences and minimize the negative. In the end, I ended up hiring a guide which really worked out well for me. I did a Google search and of course there are a bazillion guides to choose from. I came across a nice looking ad that made me curious, at www.privatevietnamtourguide.com. So I contacted Mr. Loc and we agreed on the daily rate and what it included.
Loc got to know me quickly after I arrived. I love adventure and did not want to be on a huge bus with a bunch of tourists. I’d rather spend less on lodging and more on adventure. He offered me a lot of cost saving alternatives and options during my visit.
I made hotel reservations in District 1 for about $65 per night. I know there were less expensive hotels (and a lot of more expensive too) but I decided on this one due to the TA reviews and location. Loc told me I could stay for $15 per night at a simple and clean hotel outside the tourist area. It was less than a 10 minute motorbike drive away. What a great deal and that worked out perfect for me.
He had arranged a hired car for part of my visit but said a significant cost saving option would be to just use his motorbike. I decided to take that offer and although it was not nearly as comfortable as an air-conditioned car, I saved money and it fit well into my adventurous nature.
I felt lucky to have found Loc. He is very professional, knowledgeable, honest, and has a great personality. Whether you want a luxurious, adventurous, or a budget tour, he can make your trip to Vietnam a great one.
Here’s how you can find him – www.privatevietnamtourguide.com.
Good luck and happy travels.

I cannot thank you enough for the wonderful day we spent touring Ho Chi Minh City together. I found you by simply doing an internet search for a private guide in Vietnam and read the reviews posted on your website. Based on what I read, particularly from a woman traveling alone (I’m also a senior), I emailed you. After several emails back and forth, I realized I had struck gold!
You arrived promptly at my hotel and soon proved to be amazing. When I blanched at the thought of riding on your moped, you good-naturedly agreed to use taxis. You listened to my concerns and made suggestions. You introduced me to the history and culture of Vietnam as well as the everyday life of ordinary people. We visited markets, temples, pagodas, and museums. In every neighborhood we traipsed through, I learned something new.
We ended our wonderful day over ice cream at the hotel coffee shop where we shared stories about our lives and talked about raising our children. On a scale of 1 to 5, you are a 10!
I hope to return to Vietnam some day and meet up with you again.

ANOTHER HAPPY VIETNAM TRAVELER
I traveled with Bao Loc in August of 2010 along the coast of Vietnam for a week and found him to be an excellent guide. He was punctual in our meetings and quite reliable. He speaks English well and always made sure I was getting the best prices for hotel rooms and other services. He was able to arrange good discounts for me and I would recommend him highly. I hope to travel with him again in the future. Kirk Steven Dutton

I visited Vietnam for the first time in April of 2009. A friend gave me Nguyen Viet Bao Loc’s name and number and really raved about what a great guide he was. I was told how much he would help me get around the country and show me the sights.
I made an appointment with Loc and he came to my hotel to pick me up. Loc was absolutely delightful and so very knowledgeable about his country, customs, and the language. Loc explained and pointed out so many things and places of interest to me as he gave me a detailed guided tour around Ho Chi Min City. He was extremely pleasant and was game for anything I wanted to do or where I wanted to go.
As a single woman, I didn’t have to worry about my safety and Loc was the perfect escort. He also provided transportation. We had a wonderful time and I laughed and talked and learned so much from him about Vietnam.
My group was in Ho Chi Min City for only two days before moving on to tour the rest of the country but the time with Loc was my favorite memory of my visit. I wish I would have had a different schedule to allow more individual time with him to see the Chu Chi Tunnels and more of south Vietnam. I enjoyed his perspective and insights.

To Whom It May Concern:
Loc assisted me with my landlords for almost two years in Ho Chi Minh City. He provided translation services and contacted the landlords when repairs were needed. In addition, when I was unable to pay bills due to time constraints imposed by work, I was able to entrust the task to Loc. He proved honest and trustworthy with money on all occasions. When I moved into my second apartment, Loc helped me with the sourcing of materials for the bedlinen and he also assisted me in getting good quality utensils for the apartment at a good price.
In my experience, Loc was always sincere and helpful. His honesty and reliability often helped to make my stay in Vietnam more pleasant.

I am a commercial airline pilot visiting HCMC from Nov. 02 to Nov 09, 2009…although well travelled in living part time in Asia..I decided to look for an hire a guide because of many friends previous experiences in this very different yet exciting city….i contacted many who advertised on craigslist and other sites but decided to use Bao Loc after speaking with him on skype and the way in which he listened and came up with various proposals for my trip….I will follow with his contact link and practical examples of how Bao has helped me save time and money and see and experience HCMC that would not have been possible during several visits…
http://www.locinvietnam.com (Please our Contact Form)
that is his link and now i will give some practical examples:
1. Bao met me at the airport and DID NOT charge me for waiting for me…TIP to travellers…get a LANDING CARD before you get into the immigration line…you will have to get out of line and get one of the cards and get back into line…NO ONE TOLD ME THIS… but bao waited for me , hailed the taxi and we both got it and he made sure i was not overcharged with a direct route
2. Bao bought for me at his expense until i could pay him back a Viet sim card for phone..he preloaded it with the hotel name and number..police numbers, taxi numbers and HIS number …this is SERVICE ..he found the sim card for 2.00usd with 10 hours talk time…that alone saved a lot of money and time
3. Bao found my accommodations..i DID NOT want to stay in a HILTON type hotel…WHY would anyone? do that at HOME….bao found me a small modern CLEAN guest house in district 3 which is the local district where i could experience the true HCMC yet have access close by to the tourist traps…my guest house room was large, clean, air conditioned, free WI_FI in room, hot shower en suite, refrigerator, satellite tv with English channels….all for 17.00usd a day….a BARGAIN..i am so impressed i am helping the owner get listed on TRIP ADVISOR….
4. Bao charges 7.00usd an hour..and is available at YOUR REQUEST…i chose to use bao for 4 hours one morning and 4 hours one night…that way he helped me discover restaurants, shopping, and nightlife….bao is available as per your requested times
5. Bao has become a FRIEND..we now meet for lunch or dinner or drinks at NO charge..but when i need Bao for business, i make that clear and he charges me and i pay him
6. Bao is a family man with wife and child..however Bao is open minded and can point you in the right direction for OTHER activities…
please contact me should you need more information or wish to verify with me
do HIRE bao…really, he will save you TIME AND MONEY and you will have a GREAT time with a GOOD PERSON

I am posting an ad to recommend a tour guide (Loc) that I hired while recently in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I went to Vietnam with my fiance and Loc was able to help us with a lot of our wedding stuff. We wanted to get wedding photos done so Loc brought us to several different studios to compare prices. It was good to have him there to help in communicating and bargaining prices. He also brought us to several different places to get clothes made. Again, his help in translating was of big help. Without him, we would have really struggled!
Loc went above and beyond what a typical tour guide would do. He bought with his own money until I was able to pay him back, a sim card for my phone and an electrical converter outlet. When we were out shopping and I did not have enough Vietnamese money, he advanced some to me. Also, I asked him where I could find a place to do laundry. He actually took my laundry to the place himself and returned it to me clean and folded. Lastly, he helped me fine a good deal on a reasonable, clean hotel for $45 USD/night.
Loc is a very good, trustworthy person. He charges $7USD/hour but his nightly rate (after 6pm) is $12 USD/hour. I was not aware of the nightly rate until we had to pay him on one night so make sure you are clear on what he charges ahead of time. Nevertheless, I highly recommend him. He will ease your mind while travelling in Vietnam because not many people speak English in this country.
